Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Gas Control / Operations Specialist to monitor and control a gas pipeline system, ensuring balance, safety, and regulatory compliance. You will interpret SCADA data, manage nominations, forecast demand, and coordinate with multiple departments to implement emergency and routine adjustments.

The role requires a solid understanding of natural gas operations, OQ readiness, and strong communication with stakeholders to maintain continuous gas service and safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Preferred BA/BS degree from an accredited university, or combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
• Minimum of one (1) year applicable experience with an understanding of basic principles and characteristics of natural gas, including flow and pressure relationships and natural gas operations
• 3 year demonstrated history of multi-tasking, troubleshooting of complex systems, utilization of data in decision making processes, and adherence to processes and procedures, ideally in a regulated environment
• Required to pass Operator Qualifications (OQ) and Gas Controller Training Program in processes and procedures as defined by the Department of Transportation

Responsibilities

• Remotely monitor and control the gas pipeline system by following established protocols
• Monitor operating pressure, flow rates, supply targets, customer demand, and gas system balance
• Monitor SCADA systems and recognize Abnormal Operating Conditions (AOC) and alarms
• Communicate operational issues and pipeline changes to internal and external stakeholders
• Maintain real-time operational status and documented records of department actions and operational challenges
• Analyze gas usage and distribution system pressures and take appropriate operational action
• Review, monitor, and manage gas nominations to meet contract obligations
• Assist with daily customer-demand forecasting and recommend supply, peaking-supply, or curtailment changes
• Collaborate with Engineering, Gas Supply, Gas Transportation, Technical Field Operations, System Operations, Integrity Management, District personnel, Dispatch, Customer Service, Gas Storage, and other departments
• Troubleshoot SCADA systems and support SCADA programming changes, daily operations, maintenance, and field-equipment troubleshooting
• Serve as the point of contact for large-volume customers and pipeline suppliers during emergencies
• Assist with gas-system isolation, supply rerouting, and implementation of Gas Control Plans for emergency repairs
• Provide Dispatch and Customer Service with gas facility and outage information
