Job summary

BNSF is hiring for a remote, full-time software engineer to help bridge vision and reality by transforming rail logistics into scalable, high-performing software platforms. You will contribute to platform, product, and enterprise engineering, delivering APIs, services, and AI/ML-enabled solutions across distributed systems.

Candidates should have a strong foundation in modern languages (Java, JavaScript, TypeScript), experience with observability stacks, and a collaborative, cross-functional

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the US.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or 2 years of relevant software development experience.
• Experience programming in at least one modern language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, TypeScript).
• Experience developing, testing and deploying high quality software in production systems.
• Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Experience with secure coding practices and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Write production-quality code for well-defined tasks.
• Follow team coding standards and processes.
• Participate in design reviews to learn best practices.
• Write and maintain unit/integration tests.
• Debug and fix straightforward issues.
• Develop APIs, automation, and tools to improve platform integration.
• Build and maintain monitoring and alerting systems for services.
• Collaborate with application teams to enhance reliability and performance.
• Design and operate scalable systems across data centers, edge devices, and the cloud.
