Job summary

BNSF Railway is seeking a Product, Platform & Enterprise Full Stack Software Engineer I/II for a fully remote US-based role. Join a team that builds scalable distributed systems, microservices, data platforms, and AI-enabled features across platform, product, and enterprise software.

You will write production-quality code, follow coding standards, participate in design reviews, and develop APIs, monitoring, and automation.

Qualifications

  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Bachelor's degree or 2 years of software development experience.
  • Experience developing, testing and deploying software in production systems.
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Experience with secure coding practices.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Experience participating in design reviews, incident retrospectives, or RFC processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts and to adapt quickly.

The US basesalaryrange for this full-time position is provided below:

SalaryRange:$93,750-$175,000

L3: $93,750 - $125,000
L4: $123,750 - $175,000

The range represents the amountbnsf | techreasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.This is a full-time remote position. Employees may work from anywhere within the contiguous 48 states of the United States

Travel is up to 20%.Employees will be required to occasionally travel to our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, TX for in person meetings. Travel expenses for business needs will be covered by BNSF.

This position is open to candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States. We are also open to sponsoring H-1B transfers, TN nonimmigrant status, and STEM OPT candidates with at least 2 years of remaining eligibility.

Key responsibilities may include:

As a junior engineer in our teams, you will have the opportunity to learn, develop and deliver high quality software that is highly visible, delivery innovative projects that directly impact our railroad logistics to effectively serve our customers to move freight on time. You will be involved in developing and deploying software for our core freight movement operations that spans across platform, product and enterprise engineering.

This is a full-stack engineering role, focused on building and operating large scale distributed systems such as messaging systems, micro-services, data platforms, serverless runtimes, customer experiences and applying AI/ML to develop scalable and highly reliable solutions.

Basic Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, or related field
  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Engineering experience with a public PaaS or cloud provider (AWS, Azure or GCP)
  • Interest in sustainable infrastructure and cost/resource awareness
  • Experience with single-pane-of-glass management platforms or control planes for distributed systems
  • Familiarity with frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, Spring Boot
  • Prior experience developing and delivering highly reliable distributed systems in production environment.
