Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Full Stack Developer (Production) for a 100% remote role supporting Veterans Affairs (VA) operations. The position requires deep expertise in cloud, Linux/Windows, scripting, IaC, CI/CD, and security best practices.

The candidate will work with cross-functional teams to ensure high availability of production systems. The role emphasizes on-call readiness, documentation, and collaboration across development, security, and operations to maintain data integrity

Qualifications

Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud, including S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, and CloudWatch.
Proven track record of managing and maintaining large-scale production systems.
Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.
Experience with system administration tasks including user management, permissions, and system monitoring.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and infrastructure-as-code tools such as CloudFormation.
Experience with monitoring tools like DynaTrace, Science Logic, and CloudWatch.
Understanding of network protocols, firewall configurations, and VPN setup.
Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
Experience with secure best practices for production systems.
Experience with implementing security measures, audits, and compliance with industry standards.
Working knowledge of databases such as AWS RDS SQL Server and Oracle RDMBS/RDS.
Knowledge of database performance tuning and backup/recovery processes.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with Git and CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild and CodeDeploy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across cross-functional teams
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time in high-pressure environments
Attention to detail to ensure system stability and data integrity
Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and processes
Willingness to be on-call for production support
Strong documentation skills
Ability to manage multiple projects with timely delivery
Collaborative work with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless production operations

Responsibilities

Provide high-level operational support of complex application cloud systems.
Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
Detect and resolve system outages or problems in production workstations and related infra.
Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
Work directly with the customer in day-to-day activities.
Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems, escalating when needed.
Communicate status of key problem statuses to users and senior management.
Maintain and install computing infrastructure.
Implement continuous improvement through IT systems/processes.
Maintain inventory of system assets and ensure VA security compliance.
Provide documentation, training, and additional duties as assigned.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure stability and security.
