Job summary

Blount Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced Dispatcher to coordinate daily freight movement using contract trucks sourced from third-party carriers and owner-operators.

You will secure the right number of trucks each morning, assign and sequence loads, and keep drivers and customers informed in real time. Unlike a company fleet, success here relies on building a deep bench of reliable contract carriers and negotiating daily capacity in a market with changing rates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 2+ years in dispatch, freight brokerage, or transportation coordination.
• Experience sourcing and dispatching third-party carriers or owner-operators.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service, and carrier insurance/authority requirements.
• Proficiency with dispatch software such as Haul Hub and MS Office, especially Excel/Outlook.
• Strong verbal communication and ability to maintain carrier relationships.
• Ability to handle high call volume and competing priorities accurately.

Responsibilities

• Review load boards and schedules to determine truck count, equipment, and timing.
• Contact contract carriers to confirm truck commitments.
• Negotiate daily rates within limits and document terms.
• Maintain a carrier bench to cover peak volume and last-minute changes.
• Escalate capacity shortfalls with proposed alternatives.
• Assign loads based on equipment, location, and requirements.
• Provide ETAs and daily status updates to customers.
• Enter and maintain records for each load and reconcile invoices.
• Track carrier performance metrics such as on-time and no-show rates.
• Build long-term relationships with contract carriers for priority access.
