Job summary

BetterEngineer is seeking a Founding Full Stack Engineer to help build mission-critical software in a fast-moving, AI-driven startup. You will own features across the entire SDLC—from architecture to production—while shaping the product with your technical decisions.

You'll develop backend services in Go and Python, work with PostgreSQL and Redis in cloud-native environments, and contribute to mobile apps when needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Founding Engineer or early-stage startup ownership experience.
• Strong full-stack capabilities across backend, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Go and Python; strongly typed languages like TypeScript/Rust/Java/C#/Ruby are a plus.
• Deep understanding of the SDLC, including architecture, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Proven experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot) in daily workflow.
• Hands-on experience designing AI-powered workflows using AI agents, MCP servers, custom skills, rules, and automated validation loops.
• Strong software architecture and system design skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems.
• Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical decisions.
• Self-driven, autonomous, and comfortable in fast-paced remote startups.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery across backend services, APIs, databases, cloud infra, and user-facing apps.
• Design, build, test, deploy, monitor, and improve production systems across the SDLC.
• Develop scalable backend services in Go and Python with PostgreSQL/Redis and cloud-native architectures.
• Contribute to mobile apps for iOS and Android as needed.
• Design AI-powered engineering workflows using AI agents, MCP servers, and automated validation pipelines.
• Build comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end, smoke).
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Optimize application performance, queries, infrastructure, and system reliability.
• Make architectural decisions and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Recommend deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, rolling, feature flags, containers, serverless).
• Drive AI-driven automation and documentation to boost engineering productivity.
