Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to support a federal technology organization delivering secure software and DevSecOps for national security missions. This role is primarily remote and open to candidates in the DC/MD/VA region, with travel up to 25%.

You will own technical execution of deployments, lead onboarding and troubleshooting, and establish repeatable implementation standards while collaborating with Product, Platform Engineering, and government

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years in software engineering, DevOps, cloud engineering, or deployment engineering.
• Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required.
• Advanced hands-on Linux installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and hardening experience.
• Strong DevSecOps experience and understanding of secure software deployment practices.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
• Experience troubleshooting complex integrations between legacy systems & modern software platforms.
• Experience owning complex, production-grade deployments with limited oversight.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, and escalation management experience.
• Strong customer-facing communication skills.
• Experience supporting DOD, federal, defense, or national security environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex federal customer deployments, including first-of-kind application onboardings and multi-agency/multi-enclave rollouts
• Architect and configure cloud deployments across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
• Lead application onboarding for security scanning and accreditation
• Troubleshoot complex Linux, infrastructure, integration, and deployment issues
• Perform root-cause analysis and turn recurring deployment issues into permanent fixes
• Develop implementation standards, technical playbooks, documentation, and troubleshooting procedures
• Serve as a technical escalation point and mentor other Implementation Engineers
• Partner with Product and Platform Engineering to translate customer requirements and field challenges into platform improvements
• Work directly with senior government customers and program managers during high-stakes deployments
• Travel up to 25%
