Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. You will follow lesson plans, maintain a safe classroom environment, and support the continuity of the educational program.

You may work across various grade levels and subjects, upholding the school’s Catholic identity and mission, while demonstrating professionalism, patience, and flexibility in daily classroom activities.

Qualifications

• Prior teaching, substitute teaching, childcare, or classroom experience preferred but not always required.
• Experience working with children in an educational, religious, or community setting is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with students.
• Flexibility and adaptability when working with different grade levels, subjects, and classroom environments.
• Ability to follow lesson plans and school procedures accurately.
• Basic proficiency with classroom technology and instructional tools.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• Dependable, punctual, patient, professional, and able to work independently.
• Commitment to supporting the mission and Catholic identity of the school.

Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans and instructional directions provided by the absent teacher or school administration.
• Deliver instructional content using appropriate materials, resources, and classroom technology.
• Provide meaningful learning activities that support student understanding and academic progress.
• Adapt lessons and activities as appropriate to meet the needs of individual students and the classroom.
• Maintain continuity of instruction and classroom routines during the regular teacher's absence.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
• Establish and reinforce classroom expectations and school policies.
• Monitor student behavior and respond to disruptions using appropriate and consistent classroom management techniques.
• Promote a positive learning environment that reflects the school's expectations for respect, responsibility, and good character.
• Encourage active participation and engagement in classroom activities.
