Job summary

Coinbase is building the future of institutional trading within the Everything Exchange. As an Architect on the Trading team, you will design, build, and own core trading systems that power Coinbase, including OMS/EMS, multi-venue connectivity and low-latency messaging for Retail, Prime, and wholesale clients.

Qualifications

• Hands-on architect capable of designing, building, deploying and supporting 24/7 trading systems.
• Extensive backend engineering with ownership of complex distributed systems.
• Experience architecting end-to-end trading platforms (OMS/EMS, multi-exchange).
• Deep proficiency in low-latency Java and high-throughput messaging (Aeron, SBE).
• Experience delivering projects end-to-end: scoping, architecture, implementation, monitoring.
• Experience in regulated/financial environments requiring correctness and auditability.
• Ability to make product decisions balancing engineering trade-offs and user quality.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the end-to-end trading platform including OMS/EMS, connectivity and execution.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput systems for real-time financial products.
• Drive reliability, observability, SLOs, and incident response for latency-critical systems.
• Set technical standards and reduce critical debt.
• Reduce single points of failure and mentor the team.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Security and Compliance to turn vision into roadmap.
