Job summary

The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is seeking a Codes and Standards Specialist to advance the acceptance and proper use of fire sprinkler systems nationwide. You will engage with model codes, standards bodies, and AHJs, translating complex technical requirements into clear guidance and developing training materials for industry professionals.

In this role you will represent NFSA on technical committees, conduct in-depth code research, and produce educational resources that directly

Qualifications

  • 3+ years as an authority having jurisdiction or code official.
  • ICC Certification as Commercial Fire Sprinkler Plans Examiner or Commercial Fire Sprinkler Inspector.
  • NICET water-based layout Level 1.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction related field (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Represent NFSA on codes and standards technical committees.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret fire protection codes and standards.
  • Prepare technical position papers, guidance documents, articles, and educational resources.
  • Develop and deliver professional learning, training, and outreach programs for code officials and AHJs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with AHJs, officials, industry partners, and allied organizations.
  • Support NFSA’s advocacy by promoting consistent adoption of sprinkler provisions in model codes.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and training events (travel may be required).
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align NFSA policies and priorities.
