Job summary

Hastings Insurance is seeking an experienced Commercial Lines underwriting professional to serve as a field specialist supporting Western Michigan. You will act as a trusted underwriting partner to independent agencies, balancing risk discipline with growth and service.

This role emphasizes Middle Market underwriting, agency development, and collaboration with internal teams to drive profitable growth across the territory.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–8 years in property and casualty Commercial Lines underwriting.
• Experience supporting new business growth and agency relationships.
• Middle Market underwriting experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of commercial products, coverages, pricing, and underwriting principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop and strengthen relationships with independent agency partners across Western Michigan.
• Identify opportunities to grow Hastings’ Commercial Lines by partnering with agencies on profitable new business.
• Conduct agency visits and represent Hastings in the marketplace within the territory.
• Review, evaluate, and underwrite new and renewal commercial business per guidelines and authority.
• Analyze risks, pricing, and coverage needs to support underwriting decisions.
• Collaborate with Sales, Loss Control, Product Development, Claims, and other underwriters to support growth.
