Job summary

Hastings Insurance is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Technician to join our Commercial Lines Support team in Hastings, Michigan. You will review and process commercial applications within authority, support underwriters, and help agents service a growing territory with responsive, professional service.

This role emphasizes developing underwriting knowledge through hands-on training, collaboration with underwriters, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience servicing commercial accounts, processing policy changes or endorsements, or working with commercial insurance coverage and policy information.
• Strong understanding of underwriting guidelines, procedures, and authority.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for agent and client interactions.
• Comfort using standard insurance systems and MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Review, approve, and process commercial applications within authority.
• Review policy changes and endorsements within established authority.
• Prepare policy changes requiring underwriting review or approval.
• Partner with underwriters to service an assigned territory and support growth.
• Communicate with agency partners to gather information and provide professional service.
• Apply underwriting guidelines and authority when reviewing commercial business.
• Collaborate with teammates to provide coverage and support as needed.
• Continue developing underwriting knowledge through training and development.
