Job summary

SMX is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to provide security engineering, compliance, and risk management for cloud environments aligned with NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, and DoD IL4–6. The role supports authorization, audit readiness, and continuous monitoring while enhancing efficiency via automation and GRC tooling.

This remote position supports a Herndon, VA based team. You will work with partners, customers, and internal engineers to design, implement, and validate controls across AWS, Azure,

Qualifications

• The candidate will provide security engineering and compliance support for FedRAMP and DoD cloud environments.
• They will advise on federal security requirements, authorization strategies, control implementation and audit readiness.
• Develop and maintain authorization artifacts such as SSPs, SAPs, SARs, POA&Ms, policies, and evidence.
• Support authorization planning, gap assessments, evidence development, and remediation activities.
• Leverage automation and scripting to streamline compliance workflows and evidence collection.

Responsibilities

• Provide security engineering and compliance support for FedRAMP and DoD-authorized cloud environments.
• Advise partners and customers on federal security requirements and authorization strategies.
• Develop and maintain authorization documentation and supporting evidence.
• Support system authorization and reauthorization activities across FedRAMP/RMF.
• Automate compliance workflows using GRC platforms, APIs, and scripting.
• Collaborate with Cloud/DevOps teams to implement security controls in AWS, Azure, and hybrid clouds.
