Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota is seeking a Family Development Specialist to assist foster and adoptive families with the licensing and home study process. This role emphasizes supportive services, collaboration, and ensuring families receive resources throughout the journey.

The position requires a social work background, licensure or eligibility, 21+ age, and adherence to agency background checks. Remote/community-based with mileage reimbursed is available in SD communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field; 1–2 years related experience required.
• Licensure as a Social Worker or Social Work Associate through the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners preferred and licensure process guidance provided by Lutheran Social Services.

Responsibilities

• Assist families in navigating the process to become a foster or adoptive resource.
• Complete home study assessments for prospective foster and kinship families pursuing licensing and adoption approval.
• Partner with families to complete the home study process and provide resources and support throughout.
• Collaborate with the Licensing Team and South Dakota DSS/CPS.
