Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance in Lake Oswego, Oregon, seeks a Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist to review, analyze, and process moderately complex to complex claims within authority limits. You will assess coverage, liability, and damages, negotiate settlements, and mentor team members in a dynamic Claims team environment.

The role requires a minimum of 2 years in workers' compensation claims handling, a BS/BA, active licenses, and knowledge of medical terminology and legal aspects of claims.

Qualifications

• BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in claims adjustment, general insurance or formal claims training.
• Required to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses.
• Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU).
• Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology and legal aspects of claims.

Responsibilities

• Plans and conducts investigations of claims to analyze coverage and determine liability, compensability and damages.
• Determines need for independent adjusters, cause/origin experts and independent medical examiners.
• Assesses policy coverage and notifies insured of issues; establishes reserve requirements and adjusts reserves.
• Negotiates settlements within authority limits and coordinates litigation activities.
• Mentors and trains new team members; participates in Quality Review and related processes.
