Job summary

CITGO Petroleum Corporation in Corpus Christi, Texas is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern. The 11-week paid summer internship provides exposure to refinery organization, safety practices, and technical services.

You will assist with engineering packages, update records, and present your internship accomplishments at the end of the term. The ideal candidate is a full‑time mechanical engineering student with at least 30 completed hours, a 3.0+ GPA, and the ability to work 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree program.
• Full-time Engineering student with at least 30 hours completed (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) or enrolled in a graduate level program.
• GPA 3.0 or above required.

Responsibilities

• Assist CCR Reliability Engineers, Inspectors, and Metallurgists with technical support for refinery units.
• Ensure reliable equipment performance and maximize mechanical availability.
• Provide engineering services: mechanical design, inspection data analysis, fitness for service evaluations, equipment repair plans, materials selection, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.
• Perform routine engineering calculations: statics, mechanical stress, fluid flow, heat transfer, and life projections.
• Analyze inspection data to determine equipment life and develop repair/improvement plans.
• Collaborate with Process Engineers on new projects and improvements.
• Interpret instructions for assignments and complex features.
• Handle special projects: equipment design, specifications, integrity evaluations, research, and report preparation.
