Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Highway Designer to support major highway improvements from planning through final design. You will use CADD and engineering calculations to produce accurate plans, conduct field evaluations, and coordinate with teams to meet standards and schedules.

The role offers a full-time schedule, potential telework up to 50% after probation, and a starting salary of $60,538 per year. Office location is Allentown, PA with possible remote work arrangements.

Qualifications

• One year as a Highway Draftsman-Designer or equivalent.
• Three years of highway design experience with six months of CADD.
• One year of highway design with six months CADD or a related degree.

Responsibilities

• Plan Preparation: Prepare and review detailed design plans for reconstruction, realignment, traffic control, and erosion and sediment control
• Technical Calculations: Compute geometry, grades, drainage needs, earthwork quantities, pipe sizes, and hydrologic data
• Field Evaluation: Conduct site investigations to assess terrain, drainage, and existing conditions for design accuracy
• Design Review: Review plans and consultant work for compliance with standards, specifications, and technical requirements
• Project Coordination: Attend meetings, resolve design issues, and update project schedules and documentation
• CADD Utilization: Use highway design software and CADD tools to improve workflow, accuracy, and productivity
