Job summary

Palomar College is seeking an Accountant in the Department Fiscal Accounting to perform a full range of professional accounting, auditing and financial analysis functions. The position supports sound financial decision-making through review, reconciliation and maintenance of financial records, funds, grants and programs.

The role requires a bachelor’s level education in accounting or a related field and at least three years of professional accounting experience.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of general, governmental and construction accounting.
• Knowledge of GAAP and auditing principles and procedures.
• Understanding of financial aid program operations and federally-funded grants.
• Experience with budget preparation and administration.
• Experience in financial reporting and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, balance and reconcile accounts to ensure validity and correct balances.
• Assist in budgeting for programs, grants and funds; maintain general ledger and ledgers.
• Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules and asset inventories.
• Manage chart of accounts and vendor files; run queries to analyze financial data.
• Monitor restricted funds spend to ensure contractual compliance and proper allocations.
• Process payments, issue checks, and ensure internal controls.
• Enter cash receipts, deposits and ensure federal/state requirements compliance.
• Perform year-end closing entries and assist audits.
• Support ad-hoc financial reporting and data analysis for management.
• Collaborate with Financial Aid and Scholarships departments on cash flow and disbursements.
• Assist with bond funds, capital projects reporting and change orders.
