Job summary

City of New York is seeking an experienced Accountant within the Sheriff’s Office to perform professional accounting work, conduct audits related to revenue, and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with state and local regulations. The role reports to the Group Chief and may involve remote work up to two days per week under the Remote Work Pilot Program.

The position requires a degree with accounting credits or NY CPA licensure and offers a pathway for civil service title

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree with 24 accounting credits including advanced accounting and auditing.
• A valid New York State CPA license.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile the daily cigarette stamp tax account and Sheriff’s revenue accounts to accurately record revenue.
• Weekly process disbursements for five County Trusts and Fees accounts, and Income Execution Trusts and Fees accounts.
• Record the weekly tax warrant funds in tax warrant ledger and email internal auditors.
• Ensure financial records and documentation comply with departmental policies.
• Respond to bank reconciliation inquiries and coordinate with borough offices on receipts, deposits, and payments.
• Review financial records of the audit team, Income Execution, County offices, and other records as assigned.
• Manage, maintain and deposit checked payments processed internally and externally.
• Prepare and maintain reports for all revenue within the Sheriff’s Office.
• Review and track all bank statements to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Comply with financial policies and regulations set by the Department of Finance.

Education

Bachelor's degree with accounting credits
