Job summary

Ballotpedia is seeking a full-time, 100% remote Staff Writer to join our Law Team to focus on election policy. You will conduct original research, write neutrally, and contribute to updating on-site articles with clarity and accuracy.

You will work from home, collaborating across departments, monitoring breaking news, and contributing to Ballotpedia’s newsletters while adhering to the AP-style-based style guide.

Responsibilities

• Conduct original research and analysis on topics relevant to election policy.
• Develop 50-state knowledge of election administration policies and procedures.
• Internalize election issues to update on-site articles as needed.
• Identify opportunities to expand Ballotpedia coverage of election policy topics.
• Build and manage assigned articles in line with writing guidelines.
• Contribute to the operation of Ballotpedia’s Election Policy Legislation Tracker.
• Monitor breaking news daily and update articles accordingly.
• Respond to news by quickly developing new articles as needed.
• Contribute to Ballotpedia’s newsletter publications.
• Use and generate complex procedure checklist documentation.
• Ensure the managing editor is aware of project progress.
• Learn and master Ballotpedia’s taxonomy of bias.
• Interact professionally with colleagues, customers, and the media.
