Job summary

Farrar, Straus, Giroux (FSG) is seeking an editorial assistant with broad interests, excellent communication and organizational skills, who will work closely with the Editor in Chief to support all aspects of running the editorial department while publishing a range of fiction and nonfiction. Salary range is $50,000 and the position is remote but tied to our New York, NY office.

Qualifications

  • Active organizational skills and attention to detail with reliable follow-up.
  • Facility with a range of writing and clear communication.
  • Project management experience in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and judgment.
  • Experience multitasking and working with a team.
  • Interest in a broad range of literary and popular culture.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Prior publishing experience helpful but not required.
  • Reading ability in a foreign language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate workflow and administration on a high‑volume editor’s desk.
  • Manage scheduling and assist the Editor in Chief with departmental administration.
  • Act as a liaison between editorial and production, design, marketing, publicity and sales.
  • Initiate and respond to correspondence with authors and agents.
  • Guide manuscripts through the production process.
  • Read and evaluate proposals and manuscripts on submission.
  • Offer comments on manuscripts in progress.
  • Draft copy for jackets, catalog, presentations and outreach.
