Job summary

Abnormal AI is remote-based in the USA and seeks a Director of Security Engineering to lead Security Engineering and Operations. You will own major security programs end-to-end, partnering with engineering and product teams to scale a cloud-first security program.

The role reports to the CISO and requires deep technical fluency in cloud-native environments, strong leadership, and the ability to operate autonomously in the CISO’s absence. Competitive compensation and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in security or software engineering, including 4+ years managing security teams
• Software engineering background with production code and architectural review experience
• Proven track record building and scaling security teams
• Deep technical fluency in cloud-native environments (AWS orgs, multi-account, Kubernetes)
• Cross-functional leadership with engineering teams and product partners
• Strong written communication and executive-level presence to engage with leadership and auditors

Responsibilities

• Act as deputy to the CISO and represent security to executives, customers, and regulators
• Lead, coach, and grow managers and senior engineers across Security Engineering and Security Operations
• Own the security engineering roadmap including cloud security architecture and secure-by-default platform investments
• Drive cross-functional programs with Engineering, IT, and Product on governance and compliance initiatives
• Set and defend engineering standards for the security organization, with a focus on automation and outcomes
• Build hiring pipelines, manage performance, and plan succession within teams
• Translate technical risk into business terms for the executive team and board
