Job summary

Symetra Financial Corporation seeks a Director of Engineering to lead the Digital Experience engineering organization. You will define technology strategy, build high-performing teams, and deliver secure, scalable digital products that drive measurable business value.

You will partner with Product, Architecture, UX, and business leaders to modernize capabilities, accelerate delivery, and shape Symetra's digital ecosystem.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive experience leading software engineering teams and delivering enterprise technology solutions.
• Experience leading managers and senior technical talent, with a track record of customer-facing digital products.
• Ability to translate business strategy into technology roadmaps and complex programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing engineering organization with inclusive culture.
• Define and execute technology strategies aligned with business priorities.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, UX, and leaders to deliver modern experiences.
• Drive large-scale modernization, cloud transformation, and digital initiatives from concept to delivery.
• Champion Agile, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automation, security, quality, and reliability.
• Oversee design, development, and operation of secure, scalable cloud-native solutions on AWS.
• Build and retain top engineering talent, including leaders and ICs.
• Establish partnerships with vendors to support delivery and platform evolution.
• Balance innovation with risk management and operational stability.
• Provide executive-level guidance on technology priorities and resources.
