Job summary

National MS Society seeks a Director, Government Affairs & Access to MS Care to drive a unified state and federal advocacy strategy. You will lead regional teams, align priorities, monitor lobbying efforts, and ensure data-driven decision making to advance MS policy and access to care.

The role demands strategic leadership, strong policy know-how, and the ability to travel nationally, with a focus on maximizing mission impact across states and in coordination with federal priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in a related field.
• Minimum 10 years in government affairs, public policy, advocacy, lobbying, healthcare policy, public affairs, or related fields.
• Minimum 3-5 years of people leadership experience, including supervision, coaching, and performance management.
• Experience developing and implementing advocacy strategies across multiple states or regions.
• Strong understanding of state and federal legislative, regulatory, and policymaking processes.
• Ability to travel nationally as required.

Responsibilities

• Regional Leadership & Team Management: supervise and develop regional Government Affairs & Access to MS Care staff; set expectations and foster collaboration.
• Relationship Development: coordinate federal, state, and healthcare access advocacy strategies; strengthen relationships with policymakers and coalitions; track activities and outcomes.
• Government Affairs Strategy Implementation: align federal priorities with regional activities; identify opportunities and manage contracts with lobbyists.
• Team Responsibilities: engage in training, maintain knowledge of policy priorities, participate in cross-functional initiatives, and contribute to mission success.
