UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Director of Software Engineering within Optum Insight Engineering AI. You will lead an organization of about 60 software engineers, shaping an AI-first strategy and modern platform architecture for healthcare products. This role supports GenAI initiatives across AWS/Azure with a strong emphasis on responsible AI practices.

Remote-friendly from anywhere in the U.S., with in-office requirements for Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. areas four days a week.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering or related technical field
• 3+ years leading multiple engineering teams or managers
• Proven knowledge of modern software development, cloud platforms, and distributed systems
• Proven enterprise-scale software delivery experience
• Experience managing high-value portfolios serving external clients

Responsabilités

• Define and execute AI-first engineering strategy across healthcare products
• Lead an org of ~60 engineers including three Senior Engineering Managers
• Build and deploy AI-powered and Generative AI solutions with responsible AI practices
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools to automate tasks and improve workflows
• Oversee secure, scalable AWS and Azure architectures following enterprise standards
• Lead legacy modernization, cloud migration, and portfolio process improvements
• Assess emerging technologies to guide roadmaps and design decisions
• Manage budgets, cloud costs, and vendor relationships
• Partner with Product, Architecture, and executives to translate strategy into outcomes
