Job summary

Booz Allen is seeking a Directed Energy Systems Engineer to evaluate current and future Air Force weapon systems for safety reviews and use authorization. You will join multidisciplinary teams to assess performance, conduct system analyses, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics, optical engineering, or electrical engineering.
• Ability to translate broad missions into technical objectives, analytical approaches, and measurable criteria.
• Experience interpreting physics-based models and simulations for directed energy systems.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Participate in multidisciplinary teams evaluating high-power laser systems and directed energy technologies.
• Evaluate key technologies, validate models, and assess system concepts to reduce risk.
• Conduct system-level analyses addressing performance, reliability, safety, and sustainability.
• Assess maturity and relevance of emerging laser sources and related components.
• Provide independent review of assumptions, models, experiments, results, and conclusions.
• Recommend test activities to ensure laser safety, electrical safety, and other compliance requirements.
• Provide technical support on safety matters for directed energy weapons or systems.
• Communicate complex findings clearly to senior leaders and engineers.
• Review MIL-STD-1425A compliance and DoDI 6055.11/21 CFR references for directed energy systems.
• Mentor and develop staff in high-power lasers and directed energy disciplines.
