Job summary

Mathematica, Inc. is seeking a Data Scientist to derive meaning from data and deploy data-driven approaches to answer important policy questions for clients. The role offers remote eligibility and flex by location, with work on core offerings in program improvement and policy assessment.

You will build data pipelines, apply generative AI, and communicate results to clients and cross‑functional teams. Strong background in ML, NLP, statistics, and reproducible research is required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest and/or experience using data science to contribute to policy or social impact projects.
• Experience applying generative AI programmatically to extract insights from unstructured data or to create features.
• Experience executing causal, predictive, and descriptive data science techniques including regression, ML, NLP.
• 3+ years of data cleaning/analysis using R, Python, or Julia in academic, extracurricular, or professional settings.
• Ability to work independently within an interdisciplinary, potentially dispersed team and learn continuously.
• Experience with reproducible research principles, version control, and common data-science packages.

Responsibilities

• Conduct causal, predictive, and descriptive analyses for policy questions.
• Write and maintain programming systems in Python and R to build and evaluate models.
• Develop reliable data pipelines across cloud, internal, and client servers.
• Communicate technical results to diverse stakeholders including clients and cross-functional teams.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and analysis plans with senior staff.
• Co-develop analysis plans with a senior data scientist or researcher.
• Lead small teams and tasks with oversight from more senior members.
