Job summary

Mathematica is seeking a Data Scientist to derive meaning from data and deploy data-driven approaches for policy problems. You will own data processing, build pipelines, and apply statistical, ML, generative AI methods for research reports, internal systems, or client solutions.

This role offers remote or flexible work in one of our office locations. The position emphasizes causal, predictive, and descriptive analyses, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and delivering transparent models

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in statistics, data science, or related field.
• Experience applying data science to policy or social impact projects.
• Experience with generative AI to extract insights from unstructured data.
• Experience with causal, predictive, and descriptive data science methods.
• 3+ years in data cleaning and analysis with Python, R, or Julia.
• Ability to work independently in a distributed team and share knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct causal, predictive, and descriptive analyses for policy-related questions.
• Write and maintain programming systems in Python and R.
• Develop data pipelines on cloud and client servers to support analyses.
• Communicate technical results to diverse stakeholders and teams.
• Create technical and methodological documentation and reproducible analyses.
• Collaborate with senior scientists to design analysis plans and deliver on projects.
• Lead small project teams under supervision.
