Job summary

Owner, an AI-native system for local business owners, is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to build the data foundation powering analytics, AI, and decision-making across the company. You’ll design scalable pipelines, replace legacy scripts, and own core platforms like Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster.

This 100% remote role can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada, with an optional in-person HQ collaboration in San Francisco.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering or analytics engineering experience.
• Strong SQL and Python fluency.
• Hands-on production experience with Snowflake.
• Deep ETL/ELT fundamentals including dbt and Dagster or Airflow.
• Excellent technical communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to build from zero and create structure where none exists.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data systems powering analytics, AI, and BI across Owner.
• Replace ad-hoc scripts with reproducible, production-grade pipelines.
• Own and evolve Snowflake, dbt, Dagster, and ingestion/reverse ETL layers.
• Improve data reliability, consistency, and compliance for trust in numbers.
• Move the team to self-service tooling for analysts and partners.
• Drive cost and performance optimization across compute, storage, and processing.
• Provide thoughtful code reviews and guidance to peers.
• Help build a great data platform team.
