Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services is seeking a hands-on Data Engineering Manager to lead a small data engineering team and drive modernization of a cloud-based data platform. Location: Remote (NY/NJ residents only) with occasional travel to the NYC area.

You will mentor engineers, design cloud data warehouses, ETL/ELT pipelines, and partner with development teams to improve performance, scalability, and data quality.

Qualifications

• 5–6+ years in data or backend engineering.
• Leadership or team management experience.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses (AWS Redshift preferred).
• Hands-on data pipelines and data warehouse development.
• Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, etc.).
• Experience modernizing legacy data environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and perform code reviews for a team of engineers.
• Design and optimize cloud-based data warehouse solutions and ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Improve platform performance, scalability, and data reliability.
• Partner with development teams to support enterprise data initiatives.
• Establish best practices for architecture, testing, monitoring, and data quality.
• Evaluate and implement modern data engineering technologies.
