Job summary

KDS Strategic Search Group is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to own and evolve our modern cloud data platform, solving complex engineering challenges and delivering scalable data solutions.

This remote role includes occasional travel (~5%) and focuses on building scalable pipelines, multi-layered architectures, data models, and governance while collaborating with business leaders to drive trusted insights.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience.
• Governed cloud data warehouse experience.
• Strong SQL and Python development skills.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Fabric, Snowflake, Synapse, BigQuery, Redshift or similar.
• Experience designing ELT pipelines and dimensional data models.
• Strong understanding of governance, metadata, lineage, security, and data quality.
• Experience implementing automated testing, monitoring, and deployment practices.
• A high level of ownership, accountability, and the ability to lead technical initiatives from design through implementation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize scalable cloud data pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
• Develop and support modern multi-layered data architectures (Bronze, Silver, and Gold).
• Build robust ELT pipelines that integrate data from multiple enterprise systems.
• Develop high-performance data models that support analytics and reporting.
• Establish engineering standards, version control, testing, and deployment best practices.
• Implement data quality validation, monitoring, and pipeline reliability processes.
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
• Evaluate new technologies and contribute to the long-term strategy for the data platform.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor other members of the data engineering team.

Title: Lead Data Engineer

Location: 100% remote - Occasional Travel (Approximately 5%)

Compensation Range $100-120k + 5k bonus

About the Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to own and evolve our modern cloud data platform.

You'll be the technical owner of our cloud data engineering platform, responsible for designing scalable data solutions, establishing engineering standards, ensuring data quality, and helping shape the long-term direction of our modern data architecture.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building rather than maintaining. You'll have significant ownership over architecture, cloud data engineering, governance, and engineering best practices while partnering with business leaders to deliver trusted, scalable data solutions that drive better business decisions.

You will:

You should have the following:

• Experience building, implementing, or owning a governed cloud data warehouse.
• Strong SQL and Python development skills.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Synapse, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar.
• Experience designing modern ELT pipelines and dimensional data models.
• Strong understanding of data governance, metadata, lineage, security, and data quality.
• Experience implementing automated testing, monitoring, and deployment practices.
• A high level of ownership, accountability, and the ability to lead technical initiatives from design through implementation.

Preferred Experience

• Experience selecting or evaluating cloud data platforms or related technologies.
• Experience building enterprise data platforms from the ground up.
• Experience establishing engineering standards and development best practices.Experience supporting business intelligence and analytics initiatives.
