First Citizens is seeking a remote Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data systems and ensure data quality across real-time and batch processing.

The role emphasizes applying governance, security, and observability practices while contributing to deployment and release management. Experience with cloud platforms and modern data tools is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Data Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience in data engineering, data technologies, cloud platforms
• OR
• High School Diploma or GED and 6 years of experience in data engineering, data technologies, cloud platforms
• Qualified candidates will have hands-on production experience with data pipelines, data ingestion, Python development, and cloud data platforms

Responsibilities

• Data Pipelines - Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for real-time and batch processing; optimize ETL processes
• Data Warehousing - Design and implement data warehouse structures with quality data
• Data Governance, Quality & Compliance - Implement governance policies, quality frameworks, and documentation
• Security & Access Management - Implement data security measures and access controls
• Performance Optimization and Troubleshooting - Analyze and optimize system performance for large-scale data operations
• Testing & Automation – Write unit tests and use automated pipelines with GitLab, GitHub Actions, etc.
• Code Deployment & Release Management - Manage releases to production and disaster recovery environments
• Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work with data scientists and analysts to meet data requirements
