Job summary

GovCIO is hiring a Data Engineer to design and build enriched datasets using medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) in Databricks, sourcing data from the VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and other internal and external systems. The datasets you build feed Power BI semantic models used across the organization.

This role works closely with clients to gather requirements, track work in JIRA, and deliver high-quality, well-documented data pipelines. This is a fully remote position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience in data engineering.
• Hands-on Databricks (PySpark/SQL) data pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills and data modeling for healthcare data.
• Experience with Power BI data preparation for semantic models.
• GitHub version control and collaborative development.
• Experience using JIRA to track and manage work.
• Strong communication with clients and stakeholders.
• Understanding medallion data architecture principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain medallion datasets in Databricks.
• Develop, orchestrate, and monitor Databricks jobs and pipelines.
• Write efficient SQL to transform healthcare data.
• Prepare gold-layer datasets for Power BI semantic models.
• Manage code with GitHub following team practices.
• Log and track work items in JIRA.
• Collaborate with clients to clarify requirements and data definitions.
• Troubleshoot data quality and ensure dataset accuracy across pipelines.
• Write ad hoc queries for client requests and analyses.
• Document data lineage and business rules for datasets.
• Collaborate with Power BI developers and data scientists.
