Job summary

Protagonist in Washington, DC is seeking a data science intern to apply rigorous data science methods to real-world challenges, leveraging our Narrative Analytics platform, and collaborate across teams. You will collect and prepare data, apply ML/NLP, design analytical frameworks, create visualizations, and support client-ready insights.

Strong interest in social science, politics, and communication desirable; authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the U.S.
• Eligible to work on U.S. Government contracts, which may require U.S. citizenship.
• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, CS, statistics, or related field with computational training.
• Experience with Python, SQL, and NLP workflows is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Data collection and preparation from media sources and APIs.
• Apply ML and NLP techniques to large text datasets.
• Design analytical frameworks bridging social science questions and computational workflows.
• Create visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings.
• Collaborate across engineering, product, and client teams to deliver insights.
