Job summary

CareDx, Inc. is seeking a Data & AI Engineer II to build analytical applications, data pipelines, and AI-powered capabilities supporting clinical research and data-driven decisions.

You will translate R-based analyses into maintainable Python, productionize models, and collaborate with scientists, clinicians, and engineers to deliver reliable software. You will own end-to-end features, ensure security and compliance for healthcare data, and contribute to shared tooling and documentation while

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Biostatistics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years in data engineering, backend, full-stack, analytics engineering, or related role.
• Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis and software development.
• Experience with statistical analysis, data science, or ML workflows.
• Experience converting research code into maintainable software.
• Experience building analytical apps with Streamlit, Plotly, Dash, or similar.
• Experience building backend services with Django, FastAPI, Flask, or similar.
• Experience data pipelines integrating multiple sources.
• Familiarity with relational databases, SQL, APIs, data formats.
• Experience with at least one modern LLM capability (e.g., retrieval-augmented generation).
• Knowledge of production concerns for AI systems (grounding, validation, latency, security).
• Version control and collaborative development (Git, PRs).
• Automated tests and debugging across layers.
• Ability to deliver features independently.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Honest, transparent collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain analytical applications using Python, Streamlit, Plotly, Dash, and Django.
• Own implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of features and data workflows.
• Productionize ML models and workflows built by data scientists.
• Translate R-based research into maintainable Python code.
• Build data pipelines for clinical data processing, analysis, visualization, and reporting.
• Create interactive apps for data exploration, visualization, and decision support.
• Integrate apps with relational databases, APIs, documents, and other data sources.
• Contribute to AI-powered features using structured extraction and retrieval-augmented workflows.
• Implement validation, grounding, logging, and human-review for AI outputs.
• Collaborate with scientists, clinicians, and engineers to translate requirements.
• Document decisions, assumptions, and tradeoffs.
• Write reliable, readable, and testable code; participate in code reviews.
• Monitor and improve performance and reliability across data, model, AI, and app layers.
• Follow HIPAA-aligned security and privacy practices.
• Contribute to shared components and tooling.
• Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly.
