Job summary

The Linux Foundation is seeking a Chief Technology Officer for the x402 Foundation, a vendor-neutral payments protocol project launched in 2026. You will lead technical direction, engage with member organizations, and drive conformance and interoperability across protocols in a fully remote environment.

You will partner with the Executive Director and committees to publish roadmaps, manage the conformance program, and oversee vendor relationships.

Qualifications

Proven track record designing or implementing internet protocols and payment systems.
Experience contributing to or chairing standards bodies (IETF, W3C, ISO) preferred.
Ability to define roadmaps, governance, and conformance programs.
Excellent stakeholder engagement with executives and maintainers.

Responsibilities

Represent the Executive Director on technical matters with members and external bodies.
Lead onboarding, governance, incubation, lifecycle management for open source projects and groups.
Define roadmap goals, track deliverables, and drive velocity across repositories.
Scope and manage technical contractors and vendors; oversee budgets and triage findings.
Facilitate architecture discussions, API standardizations, and release management.
Design and run the x402 conformance program with tests and certification criteria.
Drive interoperability between x402 and adjacent protocols and standards.
Liaise with standards bodies such as IETF, W3C, ISO.
Publish project health metrics and usage dashboards for governance.
Deploy LF tools to track contributor analytics and security posture.
