Job summary

BILL is looking for a Credit Risk Strategy Data Scientist to design and implement risk frameworks that improve operational control and decision making. You will craft data-driven rules, develop monitoring dashboards, and collaborate with product, engineering, and operations to apply insights across the customer lifecycle.

The role requires expertise in SQL/Python, strong statistical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex results to both technical and business audiences.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in fraud or credit risk strategy within the fintech, e‑commerce, or online payments industry.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python, with a strong ability to work with large, complex datasets and leverage data science libraries.
• Demonstrated ability to use statistics and data science to solve complex, ambiguous problems and drive data‑driven decisions.
• Exceptional communication: Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex results to both technical experts and business leaders.
• Hands‑on experience: Direct experience with developing and deploying data‑driven and automated monitoring rules, and the ability to find and recommend enhancements for existing processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, maintenance, and refinement of risk strategy frameworks and complex rules to achieve ambitious business goals.
• Be a data detective: Use advanced analytics and data science techniques to solve complex business problems. This includes building sophisticated SQL/Python scripts, interpreting results, and influencing decision‑making with your findings.
• Collaborate and create: Partner with cross‑functional teams, including product, engineering, and operations, to identify new opportunities, establish business requirements, and guide the execution of strategies across the customer lifecycle.
• Build powerful tools: Develop flexible performance dashboards and monitoring tools using platforms like Tableau to provide clear, actionable insights to a variety of audiences.
• Stay ahead of the curve: Identify and execute new opportunities to optimize processes and proactively detect and respond to evolving risk trends.
• Mentor and grow: Help mentor and support junior team members to help them achieve their goals.
