Job summary

X-Bow Systems in Huntsville, AL, is seeking a Concept Development Engineer to lead early-phase design and analysis for solid rocket motor and related vehicle systems. This role influences customer decisions, proposals, and program baselines through credible concepts and thoughtful trade studies.

You will translate mission needs into architectures, perform rapid concept development, and work cross-functionally to ensure concepts are technically sound and executable.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of propulsion, missile systems, launch vehicles, or related aerospace experience.
• Solid rocket motor design/analysis experience.
• Internal ballistics fundamentals and motor sizing knowledge.
• Systems engineering to translate needs into requirements and architectures.
• CAD experience with SolidWorks, NX, Creo or equivalent.
• Clear communication of complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Active DoD security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Develop concept-level designs for solid rocket motor and vehicle systems across applications.
• Lead trade studies spanning propulsion, trajectory, structures, aerodynamics, manufacturing, performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
• Translate customer and mission requirements into architectures and preliminary design approaches.
• Produce technical content for proposals, white papers, customer briefings, and internal reviews.
• Identify key design drivers and risks early to influence decisions.
• Collaborate with design, analysis, manufacturing, business development, and program teams to ensure executable concepts.
• Contribute to internal engineering tools, workflows, and concept development methods.
