Mercor is seeking a Computational Structural & Mechanical Engineering Expert to contribute to AI research efforts on a remote, contract basis. The role demands advanced STEM training and proven work with scientific software libraries, plus strong Python coding for problem setup and validation.

This part-time engagement (15–20 hours/week) offers flexible scheduling and collaboration with AI teams to design challenging benchmarks and reusable problem sets for state-of-the-art testing.

Qualifications

• Graduate-level training in a relevant STEM field (MS, PhD, or equivalent research experience).
• Proven proficiency with at least one listed scientific library through publications or work.
• Strong Python skills for problem setups and validators.

Responsibilities

• Design challenging computational problems to test AI capabilities.
• Develop problems requiring use of open-source tools like FEniCSx/DOLFINx, OpenFOAM, deal.II.
• Evaluate AI models against benchmarks and refine problems for difficulty.
• Collaborate with AI research teams to improve designs and testing.
• Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines.
