Job summary

MPHI is seeking a Community Outreach Technician for Region 7. This remote role requires residing in a Region 7 county in Michigan, with regular travel to Grand Traverse, Manistee, Benzie, and Otsego counties to deliver health information and lead soil lead testing activities.

A high school diploma is required, and no prior experience is necessary though outreach experience is preferred. The position emphasizes community engagement, cultural competency, and the ability to communicate health

Qualifications

• Ability to engage with diverse communities respectfully and empathetically.
• Strong oral and written communication for varied audiences.
• Willingness to learn basics of toxicology, risk communications, environmental health.
• Capable of working evenings and weekends as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality per state/federal laws.

Responsibilities

• Engage with communities to provide information and strategies to prevent environmental health risks.
• Travel to communities within Region 7 counties to share health-protective information.
• Perform soil testing tasks and lead exposure-related activities (soilSHOP).
• Inform residents about environmental test results and findings.
• Collaborate with community partners and the Community Engagement Coordinator.
• Assist with program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Support health education and outreach programs and related projects.
• Participate in time-critical Environmental Health Bureau response work as needed.
