Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking an underwriting trainee to join our team. After initial in-person training, you may have the flexibility of work-from-home time as defined by leadership, with a focus on learning to apply coverage rules and underwriting guidelines.

The role includes completing the company underwriter training program, analyzing risk information, and communicating decisions to agents. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in property/casualty underwriting is preferred.

Qualifications

• Above-average written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting.
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence.
• Ability to resolve complex issues through sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Learn various insurance coverages and contracts to make underwriting decisions.
• Read, interpret, and react to policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements.
• Assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions.
• Analyze loss experience, financial conditions and physical characteristics of risks.
• Acquire working knowledge of supporting sections of underwriting.
• Effectively communicate with independent agents and associates.
• Participate in and complete the underwriter training program.
