Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Remote Cloud Security Engineer to strengthen our client's cloud security posture. This fully remote role allows you to work from anywhere while protecting AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in cybersecurity with strong cloud security expertise, knowledge of NIST/CIS controls, and hands-on experience with SIEM, IAM, and incident response. Excellent collaboration in a distributed team is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in cybersecurity with a focus on cloud security.
• Experience securing AWS/Azure/GCP environments.
• Knowledge of NIST/CIS controls and cloud security best practices.
• Experience with firewalls, IDPS, SIEM, and vulnerability scanners.
• Strong networking, encryption, and authentication knowledge.
• Container security experience is a plus.
• Scripting in Python or Bash for automation.
• Excellent communication and collaboration in remote teams.
• Relevant security certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain security controls across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Develop and enforce cloud security policies and procedures.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Remote Cloud Security Engineer to bolster their security posture. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from any location while safeguarding our client's critical cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing robust security solutions across our cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud security principles, threat detection, incident response, and compliance. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating security risks in a dynamic cloud landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain security controls and architectures in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures for cloud deployments.
• Monitor cloud infrastructure for security threats, vulnerabilities, and anomalies using security tools and SIEM systems.
• Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing.
• Develop and execute incident response plans, including investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Implement and manage identity and access management (IAM) solutions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and data protection standards (e.g., GDPR, POPIA).
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate security into the CI/CD pipeline.
• Automate security tasks and processes where possible.
• Stay current with emerging cloud security threats and technologies.
• Provide security guidance and training to development and operations teams.
• Maintain comprehensive security documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity, with a significant focus on cloud security.
• Proven experience securing major cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud security best practices, frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS), and services.
• Experience with security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDPS), SIEM, and vulnerability scanners.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols, encryption, and authentication methods.
• Experience with container security and microservices security is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
• Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, AWS Certified Security - Specialty).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and incident response skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in a remote team environment.
