Job summary

First Citizens Bank is seeking a Software Engineer II – API Development & Cloud Migration to design, develop, and modernize enterprise APIs across Payments, Money Movement, and Information Reporting.

The role focuses on cloud-native API solutions, migration strategies to AWS, and building scalable microservices with Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, and AWS services, with emphasis on security and production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with 2+ years of software development experience.
• Experience with enterprise-scale APIs using AWS tech such as API Gateway, Lambda, ECS, Step Functions, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, IAM, and KMS.
• Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, RESTful API development, microservices, and cloud-native design; Terraform, Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and event-driven architectures are desirable.
• Hands-on API modernization and cloud migration leadership preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support secure, scalable APIs and microservices for Payments, Money Movement, and Information Reporting platforms.
• Migrate APIs and integration services from on‑premises to AWS cloud-native architectures.
• Build cloud-native solutions using AWS services (API Gateway, Lambda, ECS, Step Functions, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, IAM, KMS).
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs with Java/Spring Boot and AWS-native technologies; ensure security and performance.
• Support existing APIs, troubleshoot, improve resiliency, and optimize performance.
• Develop event-driven solutions using Kafka, SNS, and SQS for real-time processing.
• Create and maintain IaC with Terraform; implement CI/CD pipelines.
• Utilize observability tools (Dynatrace, CloudWatch, X-Ray, Grafana, Splunk) for monitoring.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and engineers to translate requirements.
• Participate in on-call, incident response, and post-mortem analysis.
