Job summary

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking a Research Specialist - Budget Analyst, ONC to build and manage clinical trial budgets and coverage analyses. The role supports the Oncology Clinical Research Services team at the Hillman Cancer Center in Shadyside/Pittsburgh, PA, with a remote schedule and Monday–Friday daylight hours.

You will work with EPIC EHR and OnCore CTMS to ensure compliant billing for research services, collaborating with investigators, finance, contracting, and compliance to align

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a health-related field is required.
• 3 years of experience in clinical trials required.
• Knowledge of clinical research protocol and budgeting.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Clinical Research Professional Certification or related certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, analysis, and maintenance of comprehensive clinical trial budgets.
• Build, enter, and maintain study budgets within OnCore CTMS.
• Conduct coverage analyses per Medicare policies and payer requirements.
• Apply CDM and CPT coding to identify billable vs sponsor-covered services.
• Negotiate budgets with sponsors and CROs, ensuring cost recovery.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies and payer regulations.
• Collaborate with investigators, finance, contracting, and compliance teams.
• Communicate coverage determinations and budget details to research teams.
• Support resolution of billing discrepancies and compliance concerns.
• Maintain knowledge of reimbursement guidelines and update practices accordingly.
• Provide budgeting education and guidance to research staff.
