Job summary

The Washington State Department of Ecology’s Toxics Cleanup Program seeks a Cleanup Project Manager / Periodic Reviewer (Environmental Engineer 2 or 3) to lead 5-year periodic reviews and oversee cleanup actions at complex sites in the Southwest Region. Based in Lacey, WA, this role supports MTCA and UECA compliance and coordinates with consultants, parties, and agencies.

Qualifications

• Experience interpreting environmental laws and regulations to ensure cleanup meets standards.
• Ability to review project documents for consistency with rules, guidance and policies.
• Assist in evaluating engineering designs and calculations under supervision.
• Experience collecting and analyzing site data and evaluating cleanup options.
• Field inspections to verify project requirements and engineering expectations.
• Coordinate project tasks, timelines, and technical reviews.
• Prepare clear written and verbal summaries for teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage cleanup of assigned sites under MTCA/UECA and policy guidance.
• Draft agreed orders, consent decrees, and cleanup action plans with timelines.
• Travel for field investigations to verify compliance with orders and requirements.
• Recommend compliance schedules or enforcement actions to accelerate cleanup.
• Plan and direct cleanup projects with document reviews and schedules.
• Review contractor work products for accuracy before final review.
• Ensure design and performance meet regulatory requirements.
• Conduct engineering analyses and verify computations.
