Job summary

Athens Administrators seeks a full-time Claims Examiner I for its Property & Casualty team. The role handles auto property & casualty claims from inception to closure, with weekly in-office work required for employees living within 26 miles of San Antonio, TX or Lake Mary, FL.

Remote work is allowed on other days if tech requirements are met, and state licenses must be kept current. Athens operates in CA, CT, FL, GA, ID, IL, MA, NY, NC, NJ, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA and WV.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; AA/AS or BA/BS preferred but not required.
• License in your domiciled state and at least one license in NY, TX, or FL; additional licenses may be required within 180 days.
• Three years of auto-claims handling experience, at least one year in commercial auto.
• Knowledge of property and casualty insurance policies, laws, codes and liability concepts.
• Proficiency in investigation and resolution of minor to medium auto physical damage claims.
• Strong negotiation, communication and organizational skills; ability to multi-task and learn new programs.

Responsibilities

• Investigate coverage and determine settlement value or denial of liability for all claims.
• Develop damage measures and establish appropriate reserves; document claims from inception to closure.
• Ensure accuracy of all payments and negotiate settlements within authority ($15,000).
• Maintain action plans, coordinate with vendors, and liaise with claimants, clients and attorneys.
• Provide customer service, assist in training, and participate in professional development.
