Remote Claims Coding Specialist – Revenue Integrity

Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Claims Coding Specialist in the Revenue Integrity department. This role is primarily a work-from-home position with onsite requirements as needed, and may be based outside the greater Chicagoland area.

The CCS will ensure accurate medical coding for billing, collaborating with physicians and clinic staff to optimize revenue while maintaining compliance with government regulations and payer policies.

Qualifications

• Ability to identify trends and recommend solutions to billing and revenue cycle processes.
• Coding certification required within 3 months of hire.
• Epic, IDX and Centricity experience strongly preferred.
• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s in a related field preferred.
• Proven working knowledge of CPT and ICD coding systems.
• Knowledge of Federal billing regulations for Medicare/Medicaid and other payor requirements.
• Knowledge of LCDs/NCDs, NCCI, and OCE edits.
• Proficiency in Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Review Clinic Outpatient documentation for correct diagnosis and procedure coding.
• Ensure documentation matches charges captured.
• Assign appropriate coding modifiers.
• Resolve claim and charge edits in Epic using guidelines (NCCI, OCE, MUE, LCD).
• Educate physicians/providers to improve revenue cycle and billing processes.
• Identify trends and root causes of errors; initiate education/training as needed.
• Maintain current knowledge of coding policies, regulations and trends.
• Attend required training sessions and team meetings; perform other duties as assigned.
