Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Fully Remote Certified Pharmacy Technician in the United States (based out of Eagan, MN) for a one-year contract. The role involves evaluating Medicaid prior authorization requests, communicating determinations to physicians and staff, and documenting outcomes in pharmacy systems.

Qualifications

• Active state pharmacy technician registration or license, verified through the State Board.
• National pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA, with verifiable status.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience in a retail or call center pharmacy environment (3+ years preferred).
• Strong medical literacy and ability to communicate clinical information clearly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; detail-oriented and organized.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and authorize Medicaid prior authorization requests from prescribers via telephone.
• Determine appropriateness of medications based on guidelines and client criteria.
• Communicate decisions to prescribers and pharmacy staff clearly.
• Document outcomes accurately in the pharmacy system.
• Explain coverage criteria, formulary alternatives to prescribers and staff.
• Escalate to a Pharmacist when in-depth review is needed.
• Record inquiries and outcomes; provide responses as needed.
• Process and review coverage determinations for faxed requests per criteria.
• Communicate coverage decisions within SLA timeframes.
• Multitask across queues (fax, pending, notifications).
• Adapt to changing team and business requirements.
• Navigate multiple computer systems to research and process requests.
• Provide high level customer service in all interactions.
• Work independently in a fast-paced remote environment while meeting productivity and SLA.
