Job Description
The Bus Driver position involves transporting passengers in large buses or other vehicles as needed. Additionally, the role includes performing laundry, cleaning, and other duties to maintain remote industrial housing facilities, food service areas, and offices in a clean and orderly condition. All duties are to be performed in alignment with NMS’s mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Provide transportation services using various vehicles, including standard passenger vehicles, large buses, and off-road vehicles.
- Drive extensively, often in foul weather conditions.
- Load and unload passenger luggage.
- Transport and deliver a variety of items to and from different sites.
- Locate and distribute materials manually or using equipment like handcarts, hand trucks, and Tommy lifts.
- Drive box vans to deliver materials to outlying areas.
- Use appropriate cleaning equipment and solutions for tasks.
- Dispose of discarded materials properly and participate in trash compaction if necessary.
- Transport trash to designated disposal areas.
- Support and participate in corporate safety programs.
- Report safety and sanitation issues to supervisors.
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned to support department or unit success.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years of bus driving experience in a related field.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger, air brake endorsements, and a valid CDL medical card.
- Acceptable driving record over the past three years, with no DUIs in the last five years.
- Pass pre-employment requirements including drug testing, physical, and other assessments; candidates must cover travel costs if testing facilities are distant.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Ability to make quick decisions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift.
- Willingness to live in dormitory-style accommodations and meet cleanliness standards.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Adherence to all safety and regulatory guidelines.
Note for Candidates Residing Outside Anchorage:
Pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate's residence, with Anchorage as the point of hire, and candidates are responsible for travel expenses.
For Alaska residents, testing may be scheduled locally if providers are available.
Remote Location Travel: Employees are responsible for expenses related to traveling to the reporting point in Anchorage for remote assignments.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is conducted indoors and outdoors, often in arctic conditions. Noise levels vary from moderate to loud. The environment is an industrial remote camp.
Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, and manual dexterity tasks.
Travel may involve flying or bus trips to remote camps.
Physical Fitness Requirements
- Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle and waist.
- Carry 35 lbs. for 150 feet with rest breaks.
- Push and pull with peak force of 60 f-lbs.
- Perform stooping, twisting, kneeling, and standing exercises.
- Complete a series of mobility and strength tests, including walking on a treadmill, climbing stairs, shoveling, and others, to ensure fitness for duty.
