Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Billing Specialist I to join our revenue cycle team. You will ensure accurate and timely billing in Epic, resolve claim issues, and process account corrections while coordinating with patients and payers.

The role emphasizes collaboration with internal departments, adherence to payer requirements, and thorough documentation of actions in Epic. Schedule is Monday–Friday with a flexible start window, suitable for a remote or on-site setting depending on team needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• One year of medical billing or related hospital experience preferred.
• Certified Medical Billing/Coding preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and resolve claim edits in Epic to ensure accurate and timely claim submission.
• Process claim resubmission requests by researching errors, correcting information, and submitting claims as appropriate.
• Work Discharged Not Billed accounts to identify and resolve billing holds and outstanding issues.
• Investigate and correct account discrepancies that impact the billing process.
• Respond to billing-related customer service requests from patients, providers, and internal departments in a professional and timely manner.
• Research insurance, demographic, and account information to support accurate billing and reimbursement.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies, payer requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
• Document actions taken and account updates thoroughly within Epic.
• Prioritize work queues to meet productivity, quality, and turnaround time expectations.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to resolve complex billing issues and improve workflow efficiency.
